Matt Hyde, Director Recruit 121 (Finance & FinTech) Managing Director of FinTech Awards Wales & London & Finance Awards Wales Meets:
David Rozier, Director, Deloittes, Cardiff
Please introduce yourself and your role in Deloittes
David Rozier – Director at the Cardiff office for Deloitte. I sit on the FinTech Wales advisory panel leading a sub working group of the panel focused on addressing the FinTech skills issues in Wales. As part of my role at Deloitte I also lead the FinTech Audit practice for the UK.
Where are the opportunities for Fintech in Wales?
As identified in the Kalifa FinTech review we have a significant opportunity in Wales. We have the raw ingredients to develop a thriving hub of fintech activity because of our transport links, excellent universities and further education as well as already established financial services businesses.
FinTech Wales is helping to build the ecosystem to develop the sector in Wales.
Deloitte are establishing a hub of trained auditors and accountants with specialist FinTech experience in Cardiff and we hope to grow significantly over time. My hope and vision is that this will support the economic opportunities in the FinTech sector for Wales.
What does being involved in Fintech Awards Wales mean to Deloittes
It provides deserved recognition for the nominees as well as elevates and amplifies the excellent activity that is already happening in the FinTech space at the moment.
What advice would you give a young technical professional?
FinTech is an extremely exciting sector to be part of – find your niche in the sector and focus on being the best at it.
What books and podcasts would you recommend and why?
Jordan B Peterson 12 Rules For Life (and 12 More Rules for Life). The books provide a framework for how to approach life not just business. Following the books’ guidance I’ve been able to better understand myself and the world around me which in turn has given me great advantages at making business decisions and building relationships with people.
